Integrative Medicine
What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is an approach to health care that incorporates conventional medical care with complementary, evidence-based medical therapies and treatments.  Integrative medicine strives to achieve healing by addressing the “whole-person, whole-body” and not just curing a part of the whole dysfunctional system.  Integrative Medicine allows for a comprehensive healing process of the mind, body and spirit through the stimulation of the body’s own innate ability to heal and through the promotion of optimal health and well-being.

Because each individual is unique with different needs, they require a complete medical program that addresses them specifically.  Medicine should be able to be tailored to an individual’s specific needs and goals in their health care.  Integrative medicine allows for this individual tailoring of health care programs and treatment plans.

Here at Integrated Healing Arts-Utah we specialize in integrative neurology and integrative addiction services in particular.  We do treat other conditions with integrative medicine as well.

Why evidence-based complementary medical therapies and treatments?

Science is still the foundation of any good medical practice.  Without the foundation of science we are shooting blinding into smoke instead of shooting a target on a clear day.  Only those therapies and treatments that have been professionally studied and found to be clinically significant should and can be used to help effectively complement conventional treatments or be used alone.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is dedicated to reviewing and evaluating complementary and alternative healing practices. For more information, visit the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine web site at www.nccam.nih.gov.

Compassion is 'the physician's mentor'.  The practice of the art lies in the heart, if the heart is false, the physician within you will be false.  Great, too, is the power of belief and faith.
