Our Mission

To create a Personalized Integrative Environment of Healing for our patients and clients who honor us with their trusted partnership along a road to greater health and healing.  We recognize and teach that healing is a unique personal process that may or may not involve curing but the achievement of wholeness.

Our Philosophy

At Integrated Healing Arts-Utah we are dedicated to helping you achieve your highest potential for wellness, regardless of your current state of health. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to health care with attention to the interrelationship between mind, body, spirit and community in healing.

We emphasize utilizing the innate potential of the human mind and body for self-repair which can be supported and enhanced by appropriate conventional as well as complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies.

At Integrated Healing Arts-Utah, located in the Riverwoods Medical Center, near the mouth of Provo Canyon we offer Integrative Medical consultations by physician referral or self-referral. While with us, you can expect to be:

    * Listened to and treated with respectful consideration as a partner in the development of your health plan.
    * Referred for medical evaluation as appropriate for your condition; this may involve laboratory testing, imaging including CT and MRI, cardiac evaluation, electrophysiological evaluation and electro dermal testing.
    * Given individualized treatment recommendations which may include allopathic (western conventional) medicine combined with appropriate naturopathic remedies, lifestyle recommendations such as diet and exercise as well as CAM treatment options including herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, biofeedback, yoga and stress reduction techniques.
    * Given the resources and education you need to sort through the myriad of complexities within CAM and conventional health options to customize a health plan that is right for you.

Consultative Service

Integrated Healing Arts-Utah is a consultative service. We seek to educate and collaborate with you and your health care providers in planning for your health. We encourage all patients to have a primary care physician to provide a regular source of care and routine/annual prevention exams, since we cannot assume that important role.

We are available for scheduled follow-up visits, but not for emergencies or urgent care needs. We provide documentation of your visit with us to your primary care provider with your consent in order to facilitate consistency and collaboration in your care.

NOTE: for neurology patients we are available after hours to assist in management of emergency care.

How to Prepare For Your Initial Visit

Integrative Medicine consultations are available by physician-referral or self-referral. Your initial visit with us will be scheduled for at least forty-five to sixty minutes. Please plan to schedule at least two hours to be with us so that there is enough time for you to check in before your visit, fill out paperwork if not already done and to have testing scheduled or laboratory tests done afterwards if they are needed. In advance of your visit, please mail the following information to us if possible:

(If you are unable to mail these documents to us at least three weeks before your visit, please bring completed copies with you.)

Your appropriate health history form completely filled out and if possible mailed or faxed back to us to enter into your chart. This will give your health care provider valuable background information.

  • Pertinent past medical records and diagnostic test results. Please have your relevant records sent to us before your visit. This saves time and enhances the best care. Many times we have to wait on medical records to determine if other tests are needed to determine appropriate diagnoses of complicated cases or prior to beginning treatment.
    • Important note: if you are seeking care for a complicated medical issue or a neurological condition and you have had evaluations including CT or MRI scans, please bring the actual films or images if at all possible.
  • The day of your visit, please bring the following with you:
    • All of your medications and supplements in their original bottles: If possible, we appreciate your bringing a typed list of these items that we may keep with your medical records. We want to know the supplements to ascertain quality and potential interactions so that we can make appropriate recommendations for your health.
    • Your questions and concerns: These are of primary importance to us. If they are not adequately reflected on your completed questionnaire, you may find it helpful to write a small list of your primary concerns to bring with you on the back of the intake forms or on a separate health form.
    • We recognize and value the support of people who are important to you. You are invited to bring a support person with you to help give history and to help give you support during treatment.

During Your Initial Visit

You will meet with one of our core medical staff for your initial visit.  You will be scheduled with one of the Physicians, MD or ND.  This initial consultation is a time for careful review and understanding of your primary concerns, your health history and your medical records.  During this visit we will have the opportunity to get to know each other and to begin the process of outlining how we can best work together to fulfill your health needs.  During this initial consultation, we may determine that laboratory or other specific diagnostic tests are needed to assess your condition.

Over the course of several visits, we will develop together a customized health plan.  We will begin this plan during your first visit, but please be aware that our larger, multidisciplinary team may wish to discuss your particular concerns and conditions.  At your follow-up visit, your provider will discuss the input from the Integrated Healing Arts-Utah team and collaborate with you in finalizing your health plan.  We suggest that you schedule your first and second visits according to appointment availability and your convenience, one to eight weeks apart.

Optional Services

We invite you to take advantage of any of the Integrated Healing Arts-Utah resources including free informational brochures on all our available therapies, daily yoga classes, educational workshops as available; these may include an additional fee.

You may choose to schedule additional consultations in body work (massage therapy, structural integration series, craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, Thai massage) or other therapeutic touch treatments, detoxification treatments, oriental medicine and acupuncture, yoga, stress management and psychotherapy consultations, or one of the many other available therapeutic options.

A price list is available upon request by contacting our receptionist at (801)229-1014.

Financial Responsibility and Insurance

Because integrative medicine services are based in a model of care that prioritizes more time intensive patient/provider encounters, they are often not fully covered by health insurers. For this reason, the clinic services may not be covered by your health insurance plan. The individual providers may be providers for your health insurance plan, though many of the integrative therapies will not be covered. Payment-in-full is expected at time of your visit; other payment options may be available, please ask to speak with our management or billing staff if necessary.

We generally will not file claims for integrative health care provider charges with any health care insurer, other than certain services covered by Medicare. In order that you may seek any reimbursement available under your health care insurance plan, you will be provided an itemized statement and upon request a billing slip to bill your own insurance if you wish. Please be aware that many commercial health insurance payers do not cover preventive or non-medical services such as massage, acupuncture, nutritional consultation, infusions or various other services that we may provide. However, many of these same insurance payers may reimburse you for some portion of charges for your initial and follow-up clinic visits.

Since Medicare will not cover some of our services, all patients with Medicare will be required to sign a waiver explaining this fact. Laboratory tests, X-rays, or other medical testing performed by non-IHA-Utah providers may, in many cases, be billed to your health insurer; you may want to be certain that you have this testing done at preferred facilities.

We suggest that you consult with your insurance carrier regarding any questions about your potential reimbursement for any of the charges described above or any services in which you may be interested.  Many times there are some plans that do cover a limited amount of services.  Some employers are offering medical flex spending or health savings accounts that do cover these services.  There are also Care Credit plans that cover any medical services that allow you to pay over time.
